Sri Partha Chatterjee

Partha Chatterjee learned vocal music from his mother Shrimati Rama Chatterjee, a regular artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He got his initial training in sitar-playing from his father Shri Prabir Kumar Chatterjee, who had taken him to the sitar maestro Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. He was privileged to study with Nikhilji for well over twelve years. After the sudden demise of his Guru in 1986, Partha was accepted by the legendary Ustad Ali Akbar Khan as a disciple. From 1991 to 1998 Khanshahib taught him affectionately and gave him the opportunity to teach in his college every summer when Partha went to study with him in the U.S. Partha is also greatly indebted to Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta for the talim and guidance that he receives periodically.

Partha has traveled extensively and performed in India and abroad since 1982. He taught and performed under the auspices of ICCR in South Asia in the late eighties. Later he taught in the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2001.

He has joined ITC SRA as a Sitar Guru from 1st January 2011.
